The tour that started it all. We’ll give you the Chicago River and throw in Lake Michigan for good measure. This boat tour starts with a close-up of the skyscrapers on the river, then opens to the lake via the Chicago Lock for another wow-factor perspective, all in 90 minutes.

Architecture, meet open water. Wendella's 90 Minute Lake & River Architecture Tour takes you from deep in the city out onto the lake for the most complete view of Chicago. It’s the tour that started it all for us, and it’s still a crowd favorite.

Expect fun facts, real-deal history, and iconic architecture up close on this Chicago River and Lake Michigan boat tour. As you cruise past over 50 legendary landmarks along the river, your local guide will bring the buildings to life. From Art Deco gems to modern marvels, they helped crown Chicago as the skyscraper's birthplace.

Then, it’s time to change the angle. The boat glides through the Chicago Lock, where the river meets Lake Michigan, and suddenly the city opens up. You’ll be treated to jaw-dropping, unobstructed views of the 26-mile skyline, plus the best photo op in town. If you’ve seen an epic Chicago skyline shot on Instagram, odds are it was taken right here.

This is a Chicago architecture tour, but with a little more breathing room. It’s educational without being intense, perfect for curious minds and casual cruisers alike. Want to ask your guide a question? Do it. Prefer to sip a drink and soak it all in? Also encouraged.

Our boats are built for sightseeing in any season. Head to the upper deck for fresh air and panoramic photos, or get cozy in the climate-controlled lounge. You’ll also find restrooms, a full-service bar, and plenty of seating onboard.

If you want the full Chicago perspective, up close and far away, this is the boat tour. It’s history, scenery, and local storytelling in one smooth ride.

We depart rain or shine; Chicago weather is unpredictable, but our boats are built for it. We recommend arriving at the dock 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time since boarding typically begins 15 minutes prior. All bags are subject to screening, and outside alcohol or weapons are not allowed. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable after the scheduled departure time. Not sure where to go? Head to 400 N Michigan Avenue, right by the historic Wrigley Building at the northwest corner of the DuSable (Michigan Avenue) Bridge. For additional info chat with us, or give us a call.

We have a selection of local favorites available for purchase, including snacks, candy, soft drinks, beer, wine, hard seltzer, cider, and cocktails. Find our full Menu here.

Our boats are wheelchair accessible from our West Dock, with a ramp to the upper deck. All of our boats have ADA-compliant restrooms. Some of our boats have an elevator from the upper to lower deck, where the bar and restrooms are located. Please call us in advance on 312-337-1446 so we can assist.
