At Wendella, every guest is important. We recognize there are many individuals that may require accessible facilities to fully utilize our service.
Michigan Avenue Dock: This dock is our most challenging for guests to access. It is the primary location for our Signature Lake and River Tour and Chicago Sunset Cruise. The dock itself has an ADA Compliant ramp to board the vessel. However, due to its age (it was built in the 1920’s) the dock itself can only be accessed by a long set of stairs. If you arrive via the lower level of Michigan Avenue, the staircase is greatly reduced, however not completely eliminated.
West Docks: Located at the end of Rush Street, on the north side of the Chicago River, the west side of the Wrigley Building. These docks are our most accessible locations. They are the primary departure locations for our Chicago’s Original Architecture Tour, Chicago River Experience, Specialty Cruises and all Private Events.
The docks feature an ADA Compliant ramp for vessel boarding. The docks themselves can be accessed by either of 2 elevators. The first being located at the southwest corner of the Trump International Hotel and Tower at Wabash Avenue. The second, and closer of the two to the vessels, can be accessed right off Michigan Avenue, between the Wrigley Building and Trump Tower right across from the Beacon Tavern.
This dock is generally in use during our summer season; from the end of April to the end of October. We ask that guests visiting during the spring and fall call first to make special arrangements (when available.)
All tour docks are subject to change. We strongly recommend calling to confirm what dock is being used prior to purchasing tickets.
The Michigan Avenue Stop of the Chicago Water Taxi is also located here. However, there are a few stairs to descend the final few feet between the dock and the vessel.
The Ogilvie/Union (West Loop), Chicago Avenue and LaSalle Street (River North) Stops require stairs to access.
Riverwalk Clark Street, North Avenue/Sheffield and Chinatown Stops are accessible either by ADA Complaint ramp or street level vessel boarding.
All Chicago Water Taxi vessels require use of a boarding ramp.
While there are no current regulations by the United States Coast Guard concerning accessibility for existing vessels, we are making every effort to make our facilities vessels fully accessible to everyone.
All our vessels have ADA compliant boarding passageways for wheelchair access. All have ADA compliant restrooms.
Two vessels, the Wendella and Ouilmette, which are used primarily for the Chicago’s Original Architecture Tour and the Chicago River Experience, have wheelchair lifts for movement between decks.
Please note, the vessels without lifts load passengers on the top deck. The restrooms are located in the lounge on the main deck.
A written version of the Signature Lake and River Tour and Chicago’s Original Architecture Tour are available at our ticket booths. They include pictures or illustrations of buildings or events for reference.
These scripts are available upon requests and must be returned on completion of the tour.
Wendella welcomes service animals providing they meet the current Department of Justice and/or Department of Transportation definitions for service animals.
A service animal is a dog or small horse that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.
Please note, Animals whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.
At Wendella, we remain committed to making our facilities and vessels accessible to all.
