ADA & Accessibility

Accessibility

At Wendella, every customer is important. We recognize there are many individuals with disabilities who may require accessible facilities in order to fully utilize our service. While there are no current regulations by the United States Coast Guard concerning existing vessels, we are making every effort to make our facilities and vessels fully accessible. At this time, our Michigan Avenue Dock requires stairs to access the dock. Therefore, wheelchair access is only available at our Trump Dock for Chicago’s Original Architecture Tour and the Chicago River Experience. There is an elevator located at the southwest corner of the Trump International Hotel and Tower which takes you straight to the Trump Dock. Once on the dock, wheelchairs can board the boat using an ADA accessible ramp. For questions or more information, please call 312-337-1446.

Our Vessels

We currently operate nine vessels, six of which can fit a wheelchair on board and have ADA compliant heads (toilets). The Wendella and Ouilmette vessels also include an elevator for access to the upper deck.

Our Docks (Facilities)

Both our Water Taxi Dock and our Main Dock at Michigan Avenue are accessible by a SET OF STAIRS. While entering our main location at Michigan Avenue via the lower level reduces those stairs in half, stairs are still required.

Hearing Impaired

For guests that are hard of hearing, a written script of the narration will be available at the ticket office upon request.

Animals

Pets are not allowed, however, Wendella does welcome service animals as long as they meet the current Department of Justice definitions for service animals. NOTE: Beginning March 15, 2011, dogs are only recognized as service animals under titles II and III of the ADA.

A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.
